2060: HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED
My neighbor is very happy today. He distributed all the strawberries of his home garden. His only son has successfully qualified the masters of Edaphology. The study of soil and stuff, you know. He is going to earn a lot. Work in the agriculture department has evolved in recent times. Students dream of a flourishing career in the field of agricultural science. In my time, there was a great craze for the engineering and medical stream. Students taking these streams were considered more intelligent and studious. For some, it was a matter of family prestige. The charm of learning coding and artificial intelligence was increasing. Apart from this, teachers and counselors were trying to burst myth about the false valor of science stream and encouraging students to choose a stream what fits their goal and interests.
When I compare education and society back in 2015 and now, I am flabbergasted. The education system has totally changed. People do things that suit their interests. The environment of fear regarding education that once existed has subsided to a great extent. Kids around me aspire to be bakers, artists, rock stars, farmers, gardeners, bloggers, writers and so. One could never proudly say that they wished to be a baker during my time. One could feel proud in mentioning that he was good at these kinds of stuff or rather these were his/her passion but would hardly think of making it their profession. I guess people have now realized that in life as small as 65-70 years, they ought to be happy in whichever field they are rather than running behind money.
The most surprising thing of all is that the farmers today are richer than most of general engineers. Today India has got so many engineers that they are jobless. Most of them have switched professions and have become farmers. We never expected this to happen but it’s damn true. The profession of farm management is fast gaining fame. In fact, the agriculture industry has tremendously evolved with dream jobs. People get the opportunity to live in original fresh oxygen for free and also get to eat fresh organic fruits and vegetables while at work. Who does not want it today? Everything is modernized. Machines are used to do all sorts of ploughing, sowing, harvesting, threshing, and so on. The farm managers or farmers wear suits and shirts like businessmen. This thought however jolting is true.
Today people wish to live in villages among the plants and trees but hardly there are any such villages left. Air filters have taken place with air conditioners. People today spend more money on fresh fruits and vegetables than on outside junk. People prefer walking over driving a car. I will now have to switch on the air filters, it is becoming almost suffocating. I had never imagined such things to happen and often wonder, “How things have changed”.
