Does advertising really help consumers in making well considered choices ?

Does advertising really help consumers in making well considered choices ?  What is one thing that you come across everywhere, no matter whether you are at home, in the market, on a highway, a train, watching a movie or in a flight? It is the advertisement. You get to see them in form of television ads, you tube ads, pamphlets, in the newspaper, billboards and so on. Excitingly, we are surrounded by advertisement all around us because as a popular saying goes, " jo dikhta hai, wahi bikta hai ". The main purpose of advertisement is to sell. Companies have been running advertisement for time immemorial with some television ads like "washing powder nirma" becoming part of our life. The advertisement industry has evolved with time and digitalisation. Instead of radio or television, now we get to see numerous ads , which is truely irritating, on you tube, while reading online news articles, playing games or even listening to music. In fact, I can hardly remember the time...

The proposed population control bill and the brewing politics.

Uttar Pradesh state law commission has come up with a new draft proposing a new law which is no exception to political backlash and controversy. No matter what the law is, if it is drafted in the state of Uttar Pradesh, it will be an alarm for political discourse in the entire nation. This time the most populous state is preparing to reduce its fertility rate to control its increasing population. Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for a thumping population of two hundred thirty million which, is equivalent to the combined population of Germany, the United Kingdom, and France. The government has released the first draft of the Uttar Pradesh Population Control Bill, which is open to public suggestions. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while unveiling the new population policy, made it clear that the government aims to bring down the birth rate from the present 2.7% to 2.1% by 2026 and 1.9% by 2030. The population control bill talks, in length, about the incentives for those who limit their...

Rising unemployment, consequences and solutions.

RISING UNEMPLOYMENT “ #We_want_job ” was the top trend on Twitter today. Thousands of people had demanded timely recruitment in government jobs where a large number of posts are vacant.   Literally, the government has turned deaf ears towards the demand of the youth. The same government promises to provide an exhaustive number of jobs in its election manifesto but hardly works in this direction. India has an enormous youth population of sixty-four percent people being under working age group. Such a large working force could be of great value to the development of any country but unfortunately, India has not completely utilized its human resource well. In fact, instead of providing jobs, the government seems helpless as the number of public sector jobs is decreasing every year. Nevertheless, we cannot blame the government for the whole scenario of the youth. One of the major causes the rising unemployment is overpopulation resulting in cutthroat competition and faster util...

Chandni Chowk Hanuman temple reconstructed. How is it linked with MCD election in 2022?

Chandni Chowk Hanuman temple is back!  The Hanuman temple which was razed after the Delhi High court order has been replaced by another Hanuman temple overnight. We all can very much remember the political and the public outrage after the demolition was accomplished about one and a half months back. Both the BJP and AAP had blamed each other for the cause of this demolition. There should not have been such debate between the two parties because development is before religious sentiments. The prestigious High Court's order would not have been if the demolition was not a necessity. I hope both these political parties pay proper respect to the Indian judiciary. The new temple was constructed allegedly by the residents of Chandni Chowk and Ram Bhakts. As per the media reports, the temple was built between 3 a.m and 4:30 a.m before the daybreak. Neither the BJP nor the AAP claims to have built this temple. The BJP, however, openly advocates the reconstruction of the temple. They ...

GANDAGI MUKT MERA GAON | Essay

GANGADI MUKT MERA GAON “Oh! It’s so smelly. How shabby it looks!” I have often noticed people chatting about the unhygienic and dirty appearance of our small town in Bihar. The garbage is thrown here and there. The plastic chokes the drains and it overflows in every rain. Mosquitoes are another big problem causing diseases. I too suffered from dengue last year. A common man never fails to accuse the government of this. Yes indeed, the municipalities are not that honest with their work. But is this the only end to talk about hygiene and cleanliness? Is it only the fault of the government? According to me, we the pupil are equally or rather more responsible for the filthy condition of our village, town or city. Who does not wish his village to be ‘ Gandagi Mukt ’. For this, one must understand his individual duty before accusing others. People in India believe that it will make no difference if he/she does not litter. There is a feeling that “all litter, so let’s litter”. This mind...
